Roger
Monkhouse was raised in Kingston upon Thames during the seventies and retains
his Estuary drawl despite a decade of living in Sheffield where he has run his
own clubs, The Last Laugh and The Merry Hell. Since 1990 he has performed
extensively throughout the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and has
recently performed in The Netherlands, South Africa and the Middle East.
Roger Monkhouse is a regular at Jongleurs Comedy Clubs
and The Comedy Store, and in 1998 was featured on The Comedy
Store's national tour sponsored by Hooch. His television credits
include Channel 5's The Comedy Store .
Roger Monkhouse is a consummate stand-up who employs a
deadly combination of charm and menace to exert a masterful
control over any audience. As a seasoned host and TV warm up he
can improvise freely with any crowd but is nonetheless marked
out as a comic by the intelligence of his material and his keen
eye for a fine phrase. His subject matter is broad and diverse,
ranging from blood donation to the ageing process to
contemporary mating ritual, but his approach remains essentially
observational with the spin of an accomplished gag writer.
"packs in more observations on the human condition in a
twenty minute set than a whole lecture on Jean-Paul Satre" Venue
Magazine
"his laconic delivery shields an engaging persona and an
enquiring mind" The Guardian
"highly regarded by his peers on the circuit -he's
shaven-headed, topical, good on relationships and nothing to do
with Bob" Evening Standard.
